SHOP

SHoP’s design for the Hongqiao Business Complex is part of the Hongqiao CBD development at the hub of airport and railway station. Working within strict urban design guidelines, SHoP’s proposal breaks up the massing of various office buildings by integrating the office spaces with a series of sky gardens, rooftop terraces and recreational areas. The canopy system hovers at 4th level height, providing shading and rainwater collection for public plazas and extending to the boundary of the site to draw people into the pedestrian campus through landscaped paths. Within the public plaza and throughout the site, the landscape is composed with a rich palette of tall trees, shrubs, bamboo, water features and sunken gardens, which lead underground parking users directly to the common plaza while offering natural light and ventilation to parking space. Three types of facades and their variations with different louver configurations can be seen across the campus, echoing the massing strategy, and providing unique identities to future tenants.
