Designed for Teachers College at Columbia University, the eClassroom Prototype is an innovative, technologically advanced classroom. The dual ideas behind the design of the space were first to preserve and highlight the original, historic aspects of the room while more importantly, proposing an innovative classroom typology that will continue to evolve with the room as technology inevitably advances. SHoP worked with Teachers College and SMW to develop an AVIT package for the room that facilitates participation and engagement. Students can wirelessly share presentations from their devices to any one or all of the four of the wall‐mounted displays as well as project onto large projection screens. Digital features like these supplement over 1000 sf of writeable surfaces in addition to 250 sf of tackable surfaces. As a model, the E‐Classroom Prototype is the first step in an evolving design that will continue to be adjusted and augmented to best serve the needs of the users.
