Walking around the Grand Central Station area, most bars fall into one of two camps: Irish pubs serving beer, and historic martini bars. Bergamo’s, designed by New York–based SHoP Architects, breaks the mold.

The International Center of Photography Opens in SHoP-Designed Building

The Center’s new Essex Crossing residence, a 40,000-square-foot interior space designed by Gensler within a new condo building by SHoP Architects, is nothing flashy but no worse for that. There are two floors of galleries, some with full-height windows and some convertible into black boxes, plus an old-is-new-again Pentagram logo embedded in the tiles. (Proper ceiling heights, too!) There’s also a ground-floor cafe for those who haven’t gorged at the Market Line food hall across the street.

“It’s great for creating a secondary space that’s tucked away and a little more private” than a home’s social spaces, said Sharples, a founding partner of SHoP, where she also leads the interiors group.

Bergamo’s Opens in the Company Building at 335 Madison

Bloomberg Takes a Virtual Reality Tour of 111 W 57th St.

As the SHoP-designed 111 West 57th Street nears completion, Bloomberg’s editors strapped on hard hats and took a 91-story ride on the exterior hoist to film some see-it-to-believe it footage from 1,420 feet in the air with state-of-the-art virtual reality cameras loaned from Google.

SHoP to Speak at FABRICATE 2020

Scott Overall and John Paul Rysavy will speak at FABRICATE 2020, an international peer-reviewed conference with supporting publication on the theme of Digital Fabrication, taking place in London from April 2-4, 2020. Scott and John Paul will present SHoP’s research and development work on WAVE/CAVE, and participate in a panel discussion on fabrication.

DC Greens Announces SHoP-designed Urban Farm

SHoP worked on designs for the new farm and community wellness space, The Well at Oxon Run, in Washington, D.C.’s Ward 8.

The Market Line Officially Opens to the Public

The 150,000 sf SHoP-designed space, with vendor spaces designed by Formactiv, officially opened to the public on Friday, November 22. The food hall will house a vast range of cuisines, many of which evoke the spirit and culinary history of the Lower East Side.
