FIT is located at the heart of the industry it serves. SHoP was asked to design a New Academic Building that will reveal and reinforce that connection.
In addition to supporting a world-class learning environment, a primary goal of the design is to create an iconic statement that contributes to creating a fresh and lasting identity for the Fashion Institute of Technology within Manhattan’s celebrated Garment District. Conceived as a new gateway to the existing campus, the New Academic Building is highlighted by a multi-layered glass façade containing within it the primary means of vertical circulation.
