A Soho shop for Costume National reflected the minimalist style of the brand.
Completed in 1997, this early SHoP project used extremes of contrast to create a sense of placelessness. The interior of the 2,500 square foot store was rendered as a pure black void, dissolving the perception of ceiling and floor. With those contextual cues removed, the collection of mostly black clothing was organized through the strategic placement of light, seen now as a material in itself.
